From February 23 to August 15, 2026, Nguyen Van Hai, MD, MSc, Head of the Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology Department at Hong Ngoc Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital, completed an advanced training program in interventional cardiology at Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH), Taiwan.

Taipei Veterans General Hospital (TVGH) is one of the leading medical centers in Taiwan and across Asia, with particular strengths in cardiology and interventional cardiology. The hospital is distinguished by its highly specialized clinical system, experienced medical teams, and capability to perform a wide range of advanced cardiovascular procedures.
As part of the training program, Nguyen Van Hai, MD, MSc, received advanced training in key areas of interventional cardiology, including structural heart interventions, particularly transcatheter aortic valve implantation/replacement (TAVI/TAVR), as well as strategies for complex coronary interventions.

Among the core components of the program, TAVI/TAVR was a major focus of the training. This minimally invasive transcatheter procedure is used to replace the aortic valve in patients with aortic stenosis, particularly those considered to be at high risk for conventional open-heart surgery.
TAVI/TAVR is a technically complex structural heart intervention that requires an experienced interventional cardiology team, advanced cardiovascular imaging, and close multidisciplinary collaboration. At TVGH, Dr. Hai gained direct exposure to the entire procedural pathway, including anatomical assessment, imaging analysis, procedural planning, device and strategy selection, hands-on participation in the intervention, intraprocedural monitoring, and management of potential complications.
In addition to structural heart interventions, the training program also placed strong emphasis on complex coronary interventions, enabling Dr. Hai to further expand his technical expertise and practical experience in managing challenging coronary artery lesions that require advanced interventional strategies.

The training program at TVGH provided Nguyen Van Hai, MD, MSc, with the opportunity to gain direct exposure to advanced treatment approaches and exchange clinical experience with specialists at one of the region’s leading cardiovascular centers. The knowledge and practical experience acquired through the program will be incorporated into clinical practice, contributing to enhanced capacity for the management of complex cardiovascular diseases at Hong Ngoc Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital.
