On November 23-24, Hong Ngoc General Hospital, in partnership with Facing The World, successfully hosted the International Conference on “Rhinology and Head – Neck updates”. The goal of these conferences extends beyond the dissemination of medical knowledge, aiming to establish a solid bridge between international experts and Vietnamese doctors.
Overview of the Conference
The conference, held over two days, featured more than 27 presentations updating participants on the latest advancements in treating nasal and sinus conditions, thyroid cancer, and head - neck surgeries. These updates provided doctors with practical insights into reconstructive and cosmetic techniques, addressing the growing needs of patients.

The conference was attended by notable figures, including HE. Iain Frew - British Ambassador to Vietnam; Dr. Ha Anh Duc - Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Minh Ky - Vice President of the Hanoi and Northern provinces ENT association; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Cong Dinh, also Vice President of the Hanoi and Northern provinces ENT association. Speakers from the Hanoi and Northern provinces ENT association and Facing The World also contributed significantly.
During the event, British Ambassador Iain Frew remarked, "This event provides an opportunity for medical experts from the UK and Vietnam to exchange experiences and share knowledge, working towards improving treatment quality for the community."

A Mission to Connect the Global Medical Community
The conference marked a significant milestone in the collaboration between Facing The World and Hong Ngoc General Hospital. It not only introduced the latest medical knowledge but also created opportunities for the global medical community to share practical experiences.
Among the key highlights were specialized presentations by Facing The World experts, including Mr. Peter Clarke on facial nerve management in head and neck cancer surgery, and Dr. Florian Bast on techniques for complex nasal septum reconstruction.

Katrin Kandel, CEO (Voluntary) of Facing The World, emphasized the organization’s commitment to fostering international connections between institutions, hospitals, and medical associations. Additionally, the organization aims to build sustainable healthcare training systems in developing countries.
“Vietnam has a high rate of children born with congenital disabilities. Therefore, we decided to implement Facing The World’s program and conduct various medical conferences here. Collaborating with Hong Ngoc Hospital and other major hospitals in Vietnam is a crucial part of our global mission. We believe that combining international expertise, technology, and resources with the dedication and talent of Vietnamese medical professionals will bring about positive, lasting changes in healthcare,” she shared.

In addition to organizing conferences, Facing The World actively conducts charity consultations and surgeries in Vietnam. Each year, the organization connects experts and calls on leading professionals to share their expertise in Vietnam. Additionally, it conducts biannual missions to work directly with medical teams in hospitals such as Hong Ngoc General Hospital, Viet Duc Hospital, and Central Military Hospital 108.

Expanding Future Collaboration
Looking ahead, with strong support from local partner hospitals and Vietnam Airlines facilitating the transportation of international experts, Facing The World plans to broaden its collaboration beyond reconstructive surgery and ENT/head and neck specialties. It aims to connect experts across various fields, providing local doctors with access to extensive knowledge and experience, ultimately improving patient care in Vietnam to international standards.
